At its meeting last night (Thursday 9 May), the Council consented to the naming of a Twechar village tartan.

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody confirmed, “Representatives from the Twechar community approached the Council for permission to name a tartan after Twechar.  The principles laid down in the Scottish Register of Tartans requires the Council to grant permission for the use of the Twechar name and there was unanimous support for this at our Council meeting.”

The Scottish Register of Tartans is administered by the National Records of Scotland and serves to promote and prepare information about historic contemporary tartans from Scotland and throughout the world.

Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson added, “It is great that there is such an active community in Twechar and the Council is delighted to be able to provide a letter of authority to the community, supporting their application to include Twechar Tartan in the Scottish Record of Tartans.”
