Council approves additional road safety measures on Bankhead Road

East Dunbartonshire Council is set to introduce new traffic calming measures for Bankhead Road, Kirkintilloch following surveys that found some drivers were exceeding the speed limit.

The Council will now introduce two sets of speed cushions on Bankhead Road, between its junctions with Waterside Road and Glenluggie Road, in order to reduce vehicle speeds and enhance road safety.

It follows on from the installation of a number of road safety improvement measures such as Give Way warning signs, a vehicle activated speed warning sign and rumble strips on the approach to the junction with Waterside Road that were introduced following a road accident in October 2014.

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, said, “The Council takes road safety concerns extremely seriously and the introduction of these speed bumps is aimed at reducing risk to residents and other road users from speeding drivers.

“We hope the traffic management measures will have a positive effect on driver behaviour on Bankhead Road.”

The Council did not receive any objections to the proposals when they were advertised earlier this year.
