Children observing workmeniChildren from Cleddens Early Learning and Childcare Centre in Bishopbriggs got a close-up view this week of the work going on at the new building they will move into next year.

The youngsters will join pupils from Woodhill and Auchinairn Primary Schools in the new £12.4m Thomas Muir Primary School and Cleddens Early Learning and Childcare Centre which is due to be complete in Spring 2017.

Taking advantage of specially created viewing windows on the hoardings around the construction site, the children kept a watchful eye on labourers hard at work.

The facility is being delivered through the Council’s Primary School Improvement Programme to provide children and young people with first rate learning and play environments.

Depute Manager of the Centre, Michelle Baxter, said, “The children are very excited to see diggers and builders on the site and to look up at the new building as it takes shape. The staff and parents are just as excited to see the progress that is being made and we are all looking forward to moving into our brand new accommodation.”

Councillor Manjinder Shergill, Vice Convener of the Council’s Education Committee, added, “It is great to see the enthusiasm among children and staff. Our plans for education in East Dunbartonshire are ambitious and I am confident that we are creating a facility in Bishopbriggs of which everyone can be proud.”

Cleddens Learning and Childcare Centre is a purpose-built extended day and year nursery which opened in 2003. It caters for about 200 children a week with a baby room for infants as young as 6 weeks as well as a 2-3 room and a 3-5 room for toddlers and pre-schoolers.
