Childminders summit as Council prepares for early years expansion

Date:
Friday, 25 October, 2019

As the Council continues its preparations to deliver additional hours of early learning and childcare to local families, it is hosting a seminar for childminders who want to be involved.

From next August all three and four-year-olds, as well as eligible two-year-olds*, will be entitled to 1140 hours, almost doubling the original entitlement of 600 hours.

To achieve that, and offer families as much flexibility as possible, a ‘blended model’ approach is being adopted and it is envisaged that childminders will play a significant role as it involves a combination of early learning and childcare in both an early learning centre and a childminder setting.

A summit is being held early next month at which childminders will find out how they can be part of the exciting developments happening across the area. The event details are:

Date:               Monday 4 November 2019
Time:              7pm (until approx 8.30pm)
Venue:            Bishopbriggs Academy, Wester Cleddens Road, Bishopbriggs, G64 1HZ.

                        (Light refreshments will be provided)

Councillor Jim Goodall, Convener of the Council's Education Committee, said, "Since we began preparing for this expansion in early learning and childcare we have involved local childminders and sought their views at key stages all along the way.

"This latest event is an opportunity for us to update childminders and share with them how their views have helped shaped our approach. It is an opportunity for them to be fully involved in helping us to provide local families with accessible, flexible, affordable, early learning and childcare."

There will be a presentation from the Scottish Childminding Association covering: what the expansion means for childminders; the implications of the national standard, including qualifications and; lessons learnt from across Councils.
