Change to Easter holiday dates for some Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch youngsters

Date:
Thursday, 12 January, 2017

For more than 800 children in East Dunbartonshire, the Easter break holds more excitement than usual as they get ready to return to brand new multi-million pound schools in April.

In Bishopbriggs, pupils from Auchinairn Primary and Woodhill Primary will come together in the town’s new £12.4 Thomas Muir Primary building which will also be home to Cleddens Early Learning and Childcare Centre.

Similarly in Kirkintilloch, pupils from St. Agatha’s Primary and St. Flannan’s Primary will join forces at the new £8.7 Holy Trinity Primary.

To ensure that the transition to the new buildings goes as smoothly as possible, the Easter break has been extended for the young people involved so that Council and school staff can make the move and get classrooms ready.

Across East Dunbartonshire, schools will be closed from Monday 3 April to Monday 17 April (inclusive), opening again on Tuesday 18 April, but pupils moving to the new schools will have an extra four days off.

In Bishopbriggs:

  • Pupils of Auchinairn & Woodhill Primaries will finish up on Thursday 30 March and return to school, in their new building on Friday 21 April (four extra days off)

  • Children from Cleddens Early Learning and Childcare Centre will finish up on Wednesday 12 April and start back at the new building on Thursday 20 April.

And in Kirkintilloch:

  • Pupils of St. Agatha’s & St. Flannan’s Primaries will finish up on Thursday 30 March and return to school, in their new building on Friday 21 April (four extra days off)

Councillor Maureen Henry, Convener of the Education Committee, said, “It is a wonderfully exciting time for everyone involved in these moves but achieving a smooth transition to a new school building takes a great deal of planning and hard work.

“These extra days off will give school staff the time and space they need to ensure that these fabulous new buildings are ready to welcome pupils for the start of a new era in the education of the area’s young people.”
