People are being offered the chance to help direct grant funding in local communities.

New members are being sought for the Grants Advisory Committee (GAC), which works to ensure that funding from East Dunbartonshire Council makes the biggest difference possible to its communities.

The GAC comprises 25 members of the local community who are nominated by their respective organisations for three years.

Nominees must be part of a constituted non-profit community group which operates in East Dunbartonshire.

The GAC informs the decision-making process of the East Dunbartonshire Community Grants Scheme by making recommendations on funding applications.

From 2011-2016, a total of 155 community groups received funding from the Community Grants Scheme - adding up to more than £500,000 and involving 363 projects.

The main target beneficiaries for the scheme are young people, those with additional support needs and older people, although a wide range of individuals and communities benefit.

Councillor Gordan Low, Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said, "Grants awarded from the scheme go directly to local groups of all sizes - helping them to continue their invaluable work within our communities.

"We are looking for new members to join the Grants Advisory Committee to help ensure funding goes to where it is most needed and will be most effective. A wide range of knowledge, experience and expertise is essential.

"Don't worry if you haven't done anything like this in the past - support is available for new members and we are keen to get as varied a mix as possible.

"The work is highly rewarding and you will be helping to make a real difference in local communities."

For further information about the role and how to apply please contact Kirsty Anderson, Policy Adviser, on 0300 123 4510 or e-mail communitygrants@eastdunbarton.gov.uk. Nominations must be made by 13 October.

* The Community Grants Scheme has a budget of £66,290 for 2017-18 to support constituted non-profit community and voluntary sector groups in East Dunbartonshire. There are normally three application rounds per year. More information is available on the webpage.
