The Council’s £3.1m investment in community facilities for Bishopbriggs took another major step forward this week when the Planning Board (8/11/16) granted Listed Building Consent for improvements to Bishopbriggs Library which will soon house a revamped Community Hub.

The layout of the blonde sandstone, Category B Listed building will be remodelled to accommodate additional services. When complete, the new Community Hub will bring together Council, library, leisure and cultural services under one roof.

It will also contain a multi-purpose room for children's activities, reading groups, and computer learning, private rooms for confidential business and an enhanced heritage space incorporating the Thomas Muir Museum.

Just last month the project to remodel the Community Hub and refurbish the nearby War Memorial Hall moved to the detailed design stage. Work will begin on the hall in early 2017.

Chair of the Planning Board, Councillor Billy Hendry, is pleased to see the project moving forward. He said, “This is a significant step towards the Council’s aim of improving facilities for the people of Bishopbriggs and enhancing the town centre. The first part of the project will involve refurbishing the War Memorial Hall and then work will begin at the Library. This Planning Board decision will enable everything to get underway.”
