There was a good response to the proposed plans for Bishopbriggs Community Hub and Bishopbriggs War Memorial which were showcased at a public drop-in session last week.

Around 40 people attended the session at Bishopbriggs Memorial Hall to find out more information on the variety of services and facilities which will be available in the new facilities.

The session was supported by key members of the design team and allowed an opportunity for people to ask questions and give their feedback and comments on the concept plans to help inform the development and design of the new facility.

Floor plans and images of the proposed developments were also available to view at the drop-in session, which was aimed at updating the community with how plans are progressing prior to finalising the details ahead of the submission of a planning application.

The project team from the Council and the Leisure and Culture Trust were also busy helping to address comments and questions from members of the public.

Depute Council Leader Billy Hendry said, "The Council is keen to engage with as many people and community groups as possible throughout the process and it's encouraging to hear that there was a good attendance at this event.

"The development of the Community Hub and War Memorial Hall will see major investment in the town centre and will provide everyone in Bishopbriggs with facilities they will be proud of.

"We listened to the feedback from the previous engagement process and introduced this session to keep people up-dated as to how the proposals are progressing. I've been assured by Council officers that feedback from this session will be reflected in the further development of the designs for the new facilities.

"The redevelopment of the library building to accommodate enhanced facilities and the refurbishment of the War Memorial Hall are part of our initial plans to develop the town centre and will be supported by a further £2m of investment over the coming years."

Ronnie Bell, from Bishopbriggs, was one of a number of residents who attended the event. He said, "I think the plans for the Hub and the Hall are good and make sense.

"It will be great to have all these services on our doorstep instead of having to travel to different areas to access them."

Fellow Bishopbriggs resident, Bill McInnes, added, "I feel the plans to upgrade the hall are very important and I am so pleased it is going to be retained for community use."

The event followed on from a previous successful information session event held in July, and meetings with user groups who currently use the library and hall.

The £2m Hub development will include enhancing the current library facilities through a full refurbishment and upgrade of the current accommodation. The Community Hub, which will bring together Council, library, leisure and cultural services in a single building, will also contain a multi-purpose room for children's activities and reading groups, a computer learning suite, private rooms for confidential business and an enhanced heritage space which will incorporate the Thomas Muir Museum.

The on-site customer services team will make it easier for residents to access and get information about a variety of different Council services and make payments for them in just one visit.

The town will also benefit from upgraded hall facilities as Bishopbriggs Memorial Hall undergoes a £1.1m internal refurbishment.
