The recently published Local Government Benchmarking Framework (LGBF) Report, reported to Council last week (14 March), confirms that Council services in East Dunbartonshire continue to perform well, despite the backdrop of decreasing local government funding.

The latest Benchmarking Report, published by the Improvement Service, compares 70 performance indicators across the 32 councils in Scotland.  Analysis of the national data showed that for East Dunbartonshire, 45% or indicators showed an improved or sustained performance in comparison to the previous year and 55% of indicator rankings improved.

Following the Council meeting Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson said, “It is pleasing to see our Council services continuing to perform well despite the continuing and sustained financial challenges we face. With 41% of our indicators in the top quartile of Scottish councils we are continuing to demonstrate high standards of service delivery to the residents of East Dunbartonshire.  We of course also look at the indicators that are not performing as well and ensure we have plans in place to address these.”

Joint Council Leader Vaughan Moody added, “Further analysis of the national data shows that in the indicators that measure service performance, 60% have improved this year and of the indicators measuring cost, 70% have improved.  This reflects our commitment to continue to deliver efficient and effective services despite our financial constraints.  The valuable information from our analysis of these indicators will inform our business plans and service improvements for the coming year.”

The Benchmarking data provides information to support ongoing evaluation including why education indicators are in the top quartile, showing consistently high performance, yet the satisfaction indicators for education have declined.  The Council is looking to supplement all the national satisfaction indicator data at a local level to provide further insight into these.

The LGBF data in relation to Children’s Services is published in April and once the full data set is available further analysis will be undertaken and reported again to Council.
