An award winning artist is bringing his stunning new exhibition to East Dunbartonshire.

A Retrospective sees prestigious Scottish artist Michael Durning PPAI, PAI, RSW take the chance to look back over 25 years as a painter.

Continuing the tradition of Scotland’s representational painting, Durning's work values a sense of place, history, and Scottish cultural identity. He finds a stark beauty in the monuments of our past, often in the destruction of architecture, industry and sites of historic importance.

The exhibition at the Lillie Art Gallery in Milngavie will feature early paintings inspired by sites in East Dunbartonshire, and a wealth of imagery from Glasgow.

There are also paintings of France and Italy, culminating in his latest paintings from Japan after winning the “W Gordon Smith and Jay Gordonsmith Award” in 2018.

Sandy Marshall, Chair of EDLC Trust, said, "We are delighted to welcome this exhibition to the Lillie Art Gallery. This major retrospective showcases the superb skills of Michael Durning and allows visitors to view some of his best artwork from the past 25 years."

Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of the Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, added, "We are very lucky to be offered the chance to host an exhibition from such a well-known, award winning artist in East Dunbartonshire.

"I would encourage as many people as possible to come along to see the exhibition for themselves."

A Retrospective runs at the Lillie Art Gallery, Milngavie, from Saturday 17 August until Thursday 19 September. Opening hours are Tues – Sat, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm. Call 0141 956 5536 for more information.
