Field of red poppies

East Dunbartonshire will mark Remembrance Sunday once again this year with a number of events across the area.

On Sunday 10 November 2019, services - organised by local churches and community councils - will be held in Auchinairn, Baldernock, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Lennoxtown, Milngavie, Milton of Campsie, Torrance and Woodilee.

Please note that this year's event in Twechar will be held on Sunday 17 November.

A service organised by East Dunbartonshire Council will also be held at the War Memorial, Bearsden Cross - commencing at approximately 10.40am - and will be led by the Rev. Graeme Wilson from Bearsden Cross Church.

It will be attended by Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire Morag Hart, Armed Forces personnel, representatives of the Council, Police Scotland, Community Councils, Churches, Boys' Brigade, Girls' Brigade and other local groups.

Provost Alan Brown said, “Once again, our churches and Community Councils have come together with other local groups to ensure that across East Dunbartonshire, we have the opportunity to pay our respects to the fallen on Remembrance Sunday.

"At war memorials in our towns and villages we will gather and fall silent to remember them. Please find out what is happening in your area and encourage the younger people in your family to continue the tradition of honouring those who died in the service of their country.

“I will represent the Council at the service in Bearsden and lay a wreath, on behalf of the people of East Dunbartonshire, in remembrance of those who paid the ultimate price. We must never forget."

Members of the public are invited to attend their nearest service. Find details of what's happening around the area.

Please note - traffic diversions will be in place in Bearsden, with Drymen Road closed between Ledcameroch Road and Colquhoun Drive between 10am and noon, with no waiting restrictions in place in surrounding streets.
