Anyone in East Dunbartonshire with a tablet or smartphone can now access local library services instantly.
By simply downloading the new free EDLC Libraries app to your mobile device you can browse thousands of books without leaving the house.
The easy-to-use app means you can:
- renew your books
- request new books to pick up
- search the entire collection
- get eBooks
- access a huge photo library
- ...and much more
The app is the latest development by the East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust to make accessing services as easy as possible for local people. Funding for the development of this app was awarded to East Dunbartonshire Libraries following a successful bid to the Scottish Library & Information Council.
Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of Development & Regeneration Committee for East Dunbartonshire Council, who established Trust, is already a fan. He said, “It is a brilliant idea and the easiest way to access library services on a tablet or smartphone. Many people, myself included, rely so heavily on these gadgets for so many parts of our lives and now this app will help avid readers feed their appetite. I'd encourage people to give it a go and for anyone who is not sure of the technology there is help available.”
The free app is available from the Apple App Store or you can get it on Google play. There is a QR code on the cover of the current What’s On brochure with a direct download link.
Trust Chair Scott Hill said, “It is important that libraries continue to evolve and keep up with trends and technology if we are to keep people interested in using our services. One really useful feature of this new app is the ability to scan the barcode on the back of any book, anywhere and instantly find out if it as available to borrow from your local library. I also recommend a visit to the Trust website (http://www.edlc.co.uk/) to find out more about what your local library can offer.”
