Community Safety service providers in East Dunbartonshire are coming together over the next few months to carry out Days of Action and to meet with local residents in Auchinairn, Kirkintilloch and Lennoxtown.

Officers from the Council’s Community Protection Team - which includes Environmental Health & Trading Standards - will join Housing Services, Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue at drop-in surgeries to give local people the chance to discuss any issues they may have or to seek advice on a range of matters.

These Officers will also be delivering a range of targeted joint patrols and carrying out enforcement work on the Days of Action in order to tackle key community safety issues and to maximise protection for residents across these ‘Place’ communities.

The drop-in surgeries are being held in the following venues.

  • Huntershill Sports Ground, Auchinairn – Wednesday 25 October 2017 and Wednesday 31 January 2018 from 10am to 2.30pm

  • Hillhead Community Centre   - Wednesday 22 November 2017 and Wednesday 28 February 2018 from 10am to 2.30pm

  • Lennoxtown Hub – Wednesday 13 December 2017 and Wednesday 28 March 2018 from 10am to 2.30pm

Councillor Jim Gibbon, Convenor of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, is encouraging members of the community to come along to these events.

He said, “Community Safety service providers in East Dunbartonshire work in partnership to keep people safe and to tackle a range of local issues including crime prevention, fire safety and anti-social behaviour.

“Previous roadshows that the Council and Police Scotland staged across the authority area last year proved to be very successful, so officers from a range of community safety partner agencies are coming together again to meet people in the communities of Auchinairn, Hillhead and Lennoxtown.

“It is a great opportunity for local residents to get access to a vast range of service providers in the one place.”

Chief Inspector Gerry Corrigan added, “I’m delighted that we can work closely with our partners in East Dunbartonshire, get out into the neighbourhood to listen to peoples’ concerns and act upon them there and then.

“As we are now co-located with East Dunbartonshire Council Community Protection Services I hope that the communities see and feel the benefits that this will bring in terms of the services we can provide.”

Station Manager Mark Leathem, said, “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service recognises the importance and value of engaging with local communities and co-ordinating our prevention activities to tackle the issues that affect those communities.

“We are therefore delighted to support East Dunbartonshire Councils ‘Days of Action’ initiative, and local crews from Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch Fire Stations will attend the events scheduled to take place in Auchinairn, Hillhead and Lennoxtown.

“We encourage members of the public to make their voices heard at these events and to tell us what affects them, and how the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service could improve the services it offers so as to have a positive impact on their communities.”
