A group of 147 young swimmers were up against the clock when they took part in the time trials for the Scottish Schools’ Swimming Championships at the Leisuredrome in Bishopbriggs on Saturday 23 November.

The annual event is organised by the EDLC Trust’s Swimming Development Team and attracts young people from 15 primary and 7 secondary schools across East Dunbartonshire.  This year, 147 swimmers entered the competition with 48 competitors making the qualifying time for the championships which will take place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in January next year.

Councillor Vaughan Moody, Joint Leader of the Council and Chair of the East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust, said, “The 147 talented swimmers who took part in the swimming time trials in East Dunbartonshire have worked extremely hard all year to compete for a place in the annual championships.   To swim at this level requires a great deal of commitment and dedication, not only from the swimmers themselves but also from their families and coaches who support them year round to reach their full potential.  Everyone involved should be congratulated for all their efforts.”

He continued, “It is fantastic to hear that 48 swimmers have made the qualifying time for the Scottish Schools Swimming championships – I wish all the competitors the very best of luck!”
