A group of 125 young swimmers were up against the clock when they took part in the time trials for the Scottish Schools’ Swimming Championships at the Leisuredrome in Bishopbriggs on Saturday 24 November.

The annual event is organised by the EDLC Trust’s Swimming Development Team and attracts young people from 14 primary and secondary schools across East Dunbartonshire.  This year, 125 swimmers entered the competition with 98 competitors making the qualifying time for the championships which will take place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in January next year.

Sandy Marshall, Chair of the East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust, said, “This event is one of the highlights of the Swimming Development calendar as we see East Dunbartonshire’s most talented swimmers come together to compete for a place in the annual championships.

"To get to this level takes a great deal of hard work and determination and I would like to extend my congratulations to everyone who took part.  Good luck to the finalists who have made it to the next stage – I wish them all the very best in the championships.”

Convener of Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets, Billy Hendry, added, “Training for this level of competition takes a lot of commitment and dedication – not only from the swimmers themselves but also their coaches and families who support them in their training.  I’m pleased to see so many swimmers have got to the next stage and I look forward to hearing how they get on in January.”
