Musical success for St. Ninian’s

Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid with young musiciansThe skirl of the pipes and the beat of the drums was the soundtrack to Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid’s weekend as she witnessed St. Ninian’s High School young musicians’ success at a national competition.

The fabulous four won the quartet section at this year’s annual Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships in Kilmarnock where 97 schools competed. An East Dunbartonshire quartet made up of pupils from Boclair Academy and Lenzie Academy also delivered a rousing performance and took second spot.

Depute Provost McDiarmid said, “I was bursting with pride watching our pupils compete and am delighted that St. Ninian’s left with first prize in their category and that a local quartet were runners-up. The standard was superb and the talent on display from our young people was just brilliant. Well done to each and every one of them!”
