Meet the winner of the Caring category at this year’s Provost Community Champion Awards!

Provost Gillian Renwick and Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid with Community Champion Mhairi GreenMhairi Green decided to get involved with the Scottish Youth Parliament to make sure that young carers were fully represented and heard by the rest of Scotland. As an elected MSYP she has taken part in a round table talk with the Labour party, delivered training with Who Cares? Scotland and talked to the Health, Sport and Social Care Committee at the Scottish Parliament. She also represented young carers when she took part in a panel with SQA about exams pressures. Mhairi has done all this while caring for her older brother who is autistic and supporting her parents who suffer with health conditions. Mhairi also helped to save her Brownie pack from closing by becoming a Leader and was a volunteer with The Sporting Aces, first supporting her brother and then helping others at the club. Mhairi will soon begin a Nursing course which will allow her to combine studying with her caring responsibilities.

After she was presented with her Award at Carers Link in Milngavie Mhairi said, “I was shocked when I found out I had won but it’s really nice to see young carers being appreciated.”

Congratulations to our Caring Champion – Mhairi Green!
