Employee News 2023, Issue 40 - Become a volunteer mentor to a young person in East Dunbartonshire

As highlighted in Depute Chief Executives’ Update 14, the Council is currently working with MCR Pathways to deliver a life-changing mentoring programme to help local young people.

In East Dunbartonshire, 290 young people have signed up to take part in the programme and we are looking to recruit volunteer mentors to ensure each one receives a mentor to build their aspirations and help them fulfil their potential.

If you are friendly, empathetic, open-minded and can spare one hour a week – you can make a difference to a young person’s life. Many of the young people are facing challenges in their lives that make it harder for them to succeed and you could provide a listening ear and the encouragement they need.

MCR Pathways provides full training and support and volunteers are matched with young people based on their likes, personality and life experiences.  Once matched and trained, you would visit the young person at their school for one hour a week, chatting and helping to build their confidence.  The programme can be transformational for both mentor and mentee.
