Employee News 2023, Issue 38 - Provost’s Christmas Foodbank Appeal – Still time to donate

Thank you to everyone who has already donated essential items for the local foodbank as part of my annual Christmas appeal.

The Cost of Living Crisis is still having a huge impact on our local communities and the foodbank in East Dunbartonshire is doing an fantastic job of providing emergency food to those most in need. Sadly, the demand for the foodbank’s services is still rising.

There is still time for you to donate what you can as the collection bins will be remaining in the locations until they are collected on Thursday 14 December.

Any donation you can manage will make a huge difference. Tins in the back of your cupboard that are close to expiring or adding a couple of cartons of fruit juice in your weekly shop – whoever small you think it is, it will go a long way to help feed someone this festive season.

As a reminder the foodbank are in desperate need of:

  • Tinned vegetables such as peas, sweetcorn, carrots
  • Tinned meats (easy to reheat) such as curry, stew, casserole, chilli
  • Tinned beans and pulses such as kidney beans, chickpeas, lentils
  • Tinned soups, spaghetti hoops, ravioli
  • Coffee, jam, rice pudding, tinned fruit, long life milk and cartons of fruit juice that can be stored in cupboards until opened
  • Microwaveable pouches such as rice, grains, couscous, lentils
  • Meals that can be used using just the kettle such as noodles, rice pots and soups

The two things that the foodbank does not need is dried pasta and tins of baked beans.

We have located collection boxes in the following places:

  • Broomhill – back door (employee entrance)
  • Broomhill – bothy (kitchen)
  • Southbank Marina – reception and 1st floor kitchen
  • Southbank House – reception
  • Hilton Depot – operational canteen
  • Kirkintilloch Health & Care Centre – 1st floor outside staff break room
  • Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch and Lennoxtown Community Hubs and the three Leisure Centres (staff areas)

Once again, a sincere thank you for your generosity

Thank you,

Provost Gillian Renwick
