Employee News 2022, Issue 35 - Provost’s Christmas Foodbank Appeal 5-20 December 2022

It is a tradition in East Dunbartonshire for the Provost to do an annual Christmas appeal and with the Cost of Living Crisis still having a big impact, I’d like to support our local foodbank in the run up to Christmas – they do an amazing job providing emergency food to those most in need in the area.

More and more people have sadly been in need of foodbank support this year and the service is supporting more and more people from right across East Dunbartonshire, who are referred to them.

They are in urgent need of the following:

  • Tinned vegetables such as peas, sweetcorn, carrots
  • Tinned meats (easy to reheat) such as curry, stew, casserole, chilli
  • Tinned beans and pulses such as kidney beans, chick peas, lentils
  • Tinned soups, beans, spaghetti hoops, ravioli
  • Microwaveable pouches such as rice, grains, couscous, lentils
  • Meals that can be used using just the kettle such as noodles, rice pots and soups.

The one thing the foodbank does not need is dried pasta – but if you can help with any of the above as part of this appeal, please donate them in our collection boxes from 5-20 December.

We have located collection boxes in the following places:

  • Broomhill – back door (employee entrance)
  • Broomhill – bothy
  • Southbank Marina HQ (Block 1) – bottom of stairs
  • Southbank Marina Shared Services – 1st floor
  • Hilton Depot
  • Kirkintilloch Health & Care Centre
  • Our four Community Hubs and three Leisure Centres (staff areas).

If you would prefer, you can also donate money by visiting East Dunbartonshire food bank.

Many thanks for all the support that you can give to this Christmas appeal – I’ll share details of what we’ve been able to collect and donate to the Foodbank on Thursday 22 December.

Thank you,

Provost Gillian Renwick
