As a result of the large number of employees that now work remotely, it has come to light that the Council’s network is being severely impacted by employees streaming World Cup 2022 matches live on their Council devices.
Internet access from Council devices is delivered through the Council internet pipe, even when your device is connected to your home broadband, and the live streaming of matches by multiple users is taking up a significant amount of our bandwidth and severely impacting the network performance.
All employees are asked not to stream any further matches from their work devices to avoid this. Network performance will continue to be monitored and should the issue persist then we will need to consider blocking access to certain sites for the remainder of the World Cup tournament.
