Employee News 2021, Issue 61 - COVID-19 - Latest update on measures to stem Omicron variant

In her briefing yesterday, the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced a three-week period of stricter COVID-19 restrictions, starting on Boxing Day, to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.

The restrictions come into effect from Boxing Day and are summarised as follows:

  • From 26 December 2021, the size of public events will be limited to 100 for indoor standing events and 500 for outdoor events
  • From 27 December we are asked to minimise socialising as much as we can, including Hogmanay celebrations
  • Additional protections will be in place in hospitality settings, including mandatory table service for venues serving alcohol and one metre social distancing between groups.

The detail of this latest update, and a copy of the First Minister’s Statement from 21 December, is available on the Scottish Government website.

We will continue to keep you updated as and when further guidance is issued this week and we encourage you to be aware of these additional measures that come into effect from 26 December.

Please also continue to follow all workplace guidance, as well as the additional advice to minimise our socialising ahead of Christmas, to ensure we keep ourselves and our families safe and well.

Thank you

Ann Davie
