Employee News 2021, Issue 52 - Winter mitigation: Opportunity to join our Care at Home Service

The East Dunbartonshire HSCP Care at Home Service is an essential part of our community, supporting some of our most vulnerable people to maintain independence and remain in their own homes. This service is provided by our teams of experienced and skilled Home Carers. The type of support provided includes prompting people to take their medication, washing and dressing, and helping people to have a meal.  Our teams provide support that makes a huge difference to people’s lives every day.

As part of our winter planning we are thinking ahead about how we can make sure we can continue to deliver this vital service, should winter illnesses affect our staffing levels. If you are a caring, compassionate and reliable person who wants to be involved in making a difference in the lives of people in your community then you might like to become a temporary support worker for Care at Home over the winter. Appropriate training and shadowing of experienced staff would be provided.

What is required?

  • You should be willing to carry out Care at Home visits to our residents who are in receipt of this service.
  • You are able to offer time to the service outside your usual work role.
  • You must have a current PVG disclosure check in place or be willing to be PVG checked.
  • You should advise your line manager that you intend to express an interest.
  • You will need to undertake a two day training programme, which will cover the following areas:
  • Personal care – basics one day face-to-face group training
  • Moving & Handling – basic half day face-to-face group training
  • Infection control – basic one hour face-to-face group training
  • Medication protocols – basic one hour face-to-face group training.

This is an extremely rewarding role and you will be proud of the difference you make. Anyone who becomes a temporary support worker will not work alone and will be with an experienced carer when carrying out the role.  If you would be interested in receiving some more information regarding this opportunity please contact Emma McColl or Maureen Donnelly, Team Leaders, in the first instance:
