Employee News 2021, Issue 49 - Message to Employees from the Chief Executive

The Council’s Best Value Audit Report was presented by Audit Scotland to the Council meeting last week, having been approved by the Accounts Commission last month.

Councillors welcomed and agreed this very positive report which highlighted key successes of the organisation, recognising the fantastic efforts of all our workforce in ensuring that our residents receive the best possible services from the Council.

Council commended the work of all employees, and asked that this be reflected within the recommendations and minute of the meeting.

I advised that I would make sure this appreciation was passed on to you all and I put on record my own thanks and huge appreciation of all of your efforts, particularly over the last 18 months.  It is the fantastic commitment, dedication and resilience of each of you, especially in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, that has put the Council in such a positive position and led to this excellent Best Value Report.

The report covered the last five years, since our last Best Value Report in 2017 and key findings that were highlighted included:

  • We have demonstrated a good pace of improvement since the last report.
  • The people of East Dunbartonshire are more satisfied with Council services than in other areas in Scotland.
  • The Council and its partners have a clear vision for the area and work well together.
  • The Council is aware of where it needs to improve.
  • The Council reacted well to the challenge of the pandemic.

You can read more in the news release on the Council website.

As we continue to develop our Covid-19 recovery plans, recognising that the pandemic is still with us and impacting our lives, I’d like to again reiterate my thanks to you all for your efforts and commitment to the Council.

Thank you

Gerry Cornes

Chief Executive
