Employee News 2021, Issue 48/2021 - Pay Award 2021 – Industrial Action by UNISON and GMB

Further to the Employee News issued on 28 October, I wish to update you on arrangements as they are presented.

As previously advised, whilst notification to undertake industrial action was received from both Unison and GMB, COSLA (on behalf of all Councils) remained in discussions with the Trade Unions’ national leadership over the Pay Award for 2021.

On Friday, it was reported that a revised offer had been presented to Trade Unions for consideration

The pay award settlement is for the period 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022, however the revised offer is to backdate implementation to 1 January 2021.

This revised offer resulted in all Trade Unions suspending the planned industrial action schedule in various local authorities across Scotland (notwithstanding the ongoing issue local to Glasgow City Council). Trade Unions via their own processes, are now formally communicating this revised offer to their members for consideration and approval.

Following withdrawal of the Notices of Industrial Action, which have now been formally received, the previous instructions advised in relation to annual / special Leave, CPD/conferences, sickness absence reporting and COVID-19 absence reporting, are lifted with immediate effect.

Whilst the Council awaits a formal response from the national Trade Unions’ leadership on consideration of acceptance of the revised offer, for absolute clarity, there is currently no planned industrial action within the Council, and all employees are expected to be in attendance at work as normal.

Kind regards,

Ann Davie
Depute Chief Executive
