Employee News 2021, Issue 42 - COP26 – Potential Volunteering Opportunities

You are no doubt aware that the United Nations Climate Conference (COP26) takes place in Glasgow from Sunday 31 October until Friday 12 November.

The event is being hosted by the United Nations and UK Government and is supported by the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council.  Surrounding local authorities are also being invited to support the planning and delivery of this significant international event.

World leaders will be attending the climate conference and it is also anticipated that there will be in the region of 100,000 additional visitors to the city to participate in the wide range of climate action activities and events that will take place in addition to the Leaders summit.

As part of the delivery of a safe COP26 conference, visitors to the city will be encouraged to take lateral flow tests while they are here.  We are being asked to identify whether any of our employees would be interested in volunteering opportunities at COP26, in public facing roles to meet and greet visitors and offer them Lateral Flow testing kits at key locations throughout Glasgow, between 25 October and 12 November.

If you are interested in volunteering, you must discuss this with your line manager to ensure that you could be released without detrimental impact to service delivery.  To express your interest, you should email fiona.mackay@eastdunbarton.gov.uk with an indication of the dates you would be able to cover, by Friday 15 October.

Further details in relation to these volunteering opportunities are being finalised by the organisers and will be shared with those who express an interest to see if they are happy to progress with their involvement.

Thank you
