Employee News 2020, Issue 74 - COVID-19 Principles for Annual Leave – Reminder

In Employee News 26, issued in April of this year, we provided employees with principles and guidelines on the governance arrangements for annual leave.

These were also published on the Hub and on the Employee Zone of our Council website when that was established.  You can find them on this page:

These Principles and Guidelines still apply and it is important that you continue to take your annual leave, in discussion with your line manager and in line with service delivery requirements.

We advised in Employee News 26 that we would update you if there would be any changes to the leave year for 2020 and I can confirm that our leave year continues to run from 1 January to 31 December for 2020 as it does each year.

Your line manager should have been discussing any leave balance with you and reminding you that five days can be carried over to the following leave year, but these must be taken by the end of January.

In exceptional circumstances and in line with service delivery commitments, consideration can be given to the carry-over of additional leave in our frontline services where it has not been possible to take the full allocation.  If this applies to you, please ensure that you discuss this with your line manager and service managers will then agree any exceptions with Line Managers who will require to consider this with Executive Officers.

Thank you
