Employee News 2020, Issue 60 - COVID-19: Protect Scotland App

As part of the ongoing measures to control the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) the Protect Scotland App as part of NHS Scotland’s Test & Protect has now been launched.  It is a free mobile phone app designed to help us protect each other, reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and avoid further lockdowns.

A new protect.scot website has been established to host the app.  It explains how the app works, has information on privacy and data and FAQs.  In summary, the app will alert you if you have been in close contact (within 2 metres for 15 minutes or more) with another app user who tests positive for coronavirus.  And if you test positive, it can help in determining contacts you may have otherwise missed while keeping your information private and anonymous.

A video has been produced to explain the app and you can view the video from the following link: View the Explainer Video Here

You can download the app to personal phones from the apple app store for iphones or google app store for android phones.

The app has been used effectively elsewhere in Europe and is most successful with a high proportion of the population using it.  It is seen as an important tool in combatting the spread of coronavirus – especially important as the number of cases has risen and additional local restrictions have been introduced in a number of council areas in the West of Scotland, including East Dunbartonshire.

I would encourage you all to download the app as a further way to control the spread of this pandemic.

Thank you
