The Council is progressing plans to deliver improvements at Canniesburn Toll, creating a better environment for all road users.

The Council's approved Local Transport Strategy 2020-2025 sets out the ambition to improve Canniesburn Toll and the surrounding area for all modes of travel – building on commitments made through planning conditions agreed in the local area.

The design will better manage queues and flows of traffic (through improved signal technology in the immediate area) and includes:

  • An inclusive design, in accordance with national and local policy and The Equality Act (2010), with improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Traffic lights on each immediate approach to the roundabout with pedestrian crossing provision
  • Upgrade of traffic lights at the Canniesburn Road/Drymen Road junction to improve signal operation
  • Provision of shared-use sections for pedestrians and cyclists to aid navigation of the roundabout
  • Parking provision for businesses on the Toll, with a blue badge bay and cycle parking
  • Retention of surrounding bus stops, helping to support public transport
  • Measures to improve known issues with drainage, incorporating Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SuDS)
  • Resurfacing the wider area on approach to Canniesburn Toll.

Given the scope of the project a Traffic Management Plan will be in place. This has been designed to ensure safe movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic and includes lane closures at various phases.

Lane and road closures are also included on the Scheduled road works page.
