Browsealoud
A considerable section of the population have difficulty reading
printed or on-screen text. For this reason, we have speech enabled
our site using a program called Browsealoud.
Simply by hovering your mouse over the text that you would like
read to you, Browsealoud will read and speak what you require,
helping you navigate our website more easily.

An example of the Browsealoud control window and text
highlighting
Browsealoud allows full control over the speed and pitch of your
chosen voice and user defined hotkeys to activate and deactivate
speech. The program also has a user defined pronunciation engine
that allows a user to add words and define how a word is
pronounced. We have already added a number of pronunciations of
commonly used place names in East Dunbartonshire to the site.
The software required to run this is free to download from the
Browsealoud website or by
clicking on the logo shown below.

A video tour which will assist you on how to use Browsealoud,
access the options and change the way Browsealoud will read content
aloud, is available from the Browsealoud website or by clicking on
the logo shown below.
