Survey of Historic Gardens and Designed Landscapes

Loch and green landscape with treesThe Council has undertaken a Survey of Historic Gardens and Designed Landscapes in East Dunbartonshire. This was conducted during 2005 and 2006 by Peter McGowan Associates (Landscape Architects and Heritage Management Consultants).

The Report has identified a number of locally important historic gardens and designed landscapes which provide the setting for listed buildings, give quality to the landscape of the countryside and have a significant influence on the fabric of our towns and villages.

Three sites have been recommended for inclusion in the National Inventory which can be found at the Historic Scotland heritage website. The findings will be included in the Council’s Local Plan in order to ensure that full attention is given to protecting and enhancing this important component of East Dunbartonshire’s landscape. Inclusion of the three recommended sites in the National Inventory will also be promoted.
