Provost’s Community Champion Awards

Provost Gillian Renwick is launching the East Dunbartonshire Community Champion Awards to recognise those in the community that make an outstanding contribution across a range of themes.

This is an opportunity to put someone forward who deserves to be recognised for the amazing work that they do for the benefit of our communities.

Categories

Nominations for the 2023 Community Champion Awards are invited in the following six categories:

  • Community Champion

Open to anyone as an individual or member of a not for profit group or organisation, who makes an outstanding contribution to their local community

  • Young Champion

Anyone who is under 21 who may be at school or college or participate in a youth organisation or group who makes a positive contribution to the community

  • Caring Champion

Open to any individual of any age or group who offers care to a relative, friend or neighbour.  There are many carers in today’s society – e.g. befrienders or foster carers.

  • Sports Champion

Can be a competitor, coach, club volunteer or someone who ensures access to sport for all for enjoyment, competition or health.

  • Arts & Heritage Champion

Open to those who makes a contribution to or further art, culture or heritage in their local community.

  • Sustainability Champion

Open to those who contribute towards or improve sustainability in their local  community, including environmental action and climate change action.
 

Criteria for Nominations

Those who are nominated should have made a significant contribution to the local community. They should have demonstrated inspiring qualities and be a great role model to those around them. The role they carry out or a project they have completed should have brought about positive change and added value to the community in their category.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Those who are nominated must live, work or attend school or college in East Dunbartonshire.
  • Nominations may be made posthumously in recognition of recent achievements.
  • Nominations must not be political in nature.
  • Elected members of East Dunbartonshire Council are not eligible to be nominated.
  • Employees of East Dunbartonshire Council are eligible but for any activity that is not related to their employment.

Closing Date

All nominations must be received by 5pm on Thursday 8 June 2023. The Provost and Depute Provost will judge the nominations and the announcement of the winners will take place on Friday 16 June.
 

Awards

The Provost will present the winner of each category with their Award at an appropriate time and place following the announcement.

The winners of all categories will be invited to attend the Civic Reception at the Gala Night of the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival on Saturday 26 August as guests of the Provost.
