Employee News 2024, Issue 9 - International Workers’ Memorial Day 2024

On Sunday 28 April, the Council will once again be marking International Workers’ Memorial Day. We recognise this day every year to remember those who have lost their lives at work, or from work-related injury or illness.

International Workers’ Memorial Day is a global event, with activities taking place across the world.

As part of the Council’s commemorations, the flags at our Southbank Marina HQ will fly at half-mast on the day.

The Council has traditionally held a commemorative event at the Cadder Pit Disaster memorial cairn at Bishopbriggs Library & Hub. This year, Council Leader Gordan Low will be joined for the wreath-laying event by fellow councillors, and representatives from the Trades Unions and the Community Planning Partnership. Our local MP and MSP will also be invited to attend.

Any employees who would like to attend are welcome. If you are unable to attend, but would like to mark the occasion, you can participate in a one-minute silence at 12 noon.

Thank you,

Ann Davie
Chief Executive
