Local authorities in Scotland have a statutory duty to provide a
service for the registration of births, stillbirths, deaths,
marriages and civil partnerships in each of their registration
The Registrar is responsible for ensuring that all births,
stillbirths, deaths and marriages are registered within the
statutory time limits. The registration staff also deal with
changes of name, marriages abroad, re-registration of births and
declarations of paternity. Civil marriages are conducted at
registration suites and at venues approved by the Council for that
purpose. The fees and charges for these services are outlined in

In East Dunbartonshire, Registration Services also provide
various ancillary services such as:
Cash counter: rent and Council Tax payment and access to
Municipal Bank accounts.
Education Services: footwear and clothing grants
administration, free school meals administration, education appeals
hearings and school attendance councils.
