Civil Registration Services

Local authorities in Scotland have a statutory duty to provide a service for the registration of births, stillbirths, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships in each of their registration districts.

The Registrar is responsible for ensuring that all births, stillbirths, deaths and marriages are registered within the statutory time limits. The registration staff also deal with changes of name, marriages abroad, re-registration of births and declarations of paternity. Civil marriages are conducted at registration suites and at venues approved by the Council for that purpose. The fees and charges for these services are outlined in the Registration Fees and Charges document (pdf) (44Kb).
