Our Results
In 2010/11 the Fraud Team established that £764,703.32 had been stolen by benefit thieves within East Dunbartonshire. This is the highest figure achieved by the team and represents a 50% increase from the previous years total of £506,691.38.

In addition to recovering this money, for which the Council will use all powers available, further action was taken against 40 fraudsters, 19 of whom were reported to Procurator Fiscal. The other cases were disposed of by applying Administrative Cautions and Administrative Penalties, 14 and 7 respectively, as an alternative to prosecution.

Of the cases reported to the Procurator Fiscal the most notable outcome was that of a case involving an Angela Weldon of Kirkintilloch who was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for fraudulently obtaining £30,000 in benefits.
