Education Maintenance Allowance

The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) scheme, is available to students who stay on at school after they reach the statutory school leaving age.

The scheme, which is funded by the Scottish Government, could benefit you by  £30 per week if you returned to school in August, depending on the household income of your parent(s) or carer(s) and how many brothers or sisters you have.

Below is the EMA income criteria for Academic year 2014-2015. 

  • Was your 2013-14 household income : 

      £20,351 per annum or less (for families with a single dependent child)


  • £22,403 per annum or less (for families with more than one dependent child)
