Recycling household waste is more environmentally friendly than sending it for disposal to landfill. Recycling also helps to reduce the amount of raw materials we use and by recycling more we save money on the cost of waste disposal and Landfill Tax.
Kerbside Recycling Arrangements
Some recyclable materials are already collected from homes in East Dunbartonshire through the kerbside collection scheme. For further details of the scheme, and to find out which items can be recycled, please see the document below. We would also request that all bottles, jars and cans to be recycled are rinsed and all cardboard is flat-packed where possible.
The following leaflet explains our Refuse and Recycling Services in more detail.

Local Recycling Points
There are also several Recycling Points located within the area. Please see the file attached below, for locations and details of which materials are accepted at each Point.
Recycling Centre
The Council's Waste Transfer station is based at Mavis Valley, Balmuildy Road, Bishopbriggs. Household and commercial waste is taken here before being transferred to either landfill or to a Recycling Contractor.
A new Recycling Centre has been constructed at Mavis Valley, extending the main civic amenity site. The new facility enables householders to recycle even more of their household waste. Please see the file attached below, which also includes details of materials currently accepted at Mavis Valley.
The opening hours for the Mavis Valley Transfer Station are:
Summer
- Mon-Fri 8am - 7.30pm

Furniture and Household Goods
Rather than disposing of unwanted furniture and other household goods these could be donated to charity instead. Several local charities will collect items. East Dunbartonshire Council's Furniture Project can be contacted on 0141 578 2108, or contact Ruchill Furniture Project on 0141 945 2746.
