Airport Consultation Areas

4.1.58     Much of East Dunbartonshire lies under the flight path to and from Glasgow Airport and many communities could be adversely affected by additional air traffic, late night/early morning traffic or flights through the night.  At present however under the terms of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (Scotland) Order 1992, only those Authorities which directly adjoin the development site have the statutory right to be consulted.  The Council considers that the local community should be consulted as of right on development proposals which could result in additional air traffic over East Dunbartonshire and have an opportunity to make representations in such cases and wishes to have appropriate provisions put in place.

DQ 14A  Consultations re. Glasgow Airport

The Council recommends that the Scottish Ministers consider amending provisions so that all Planning Authorities which are likely to be affected by a development are consulted by the Planning Authority determining the application. In the meantime, the Council requests that it be formally consulted on applications for planning permission for developments at Glasgow Airport which could involve material changes to air traffic.

4.1.59     Additionally, much of the East Dunbartonshire Area falls under the Airport Safeguarding Zone (see appendix 8) around Glasgow Airport. In this area certain types of development which by reason of their height, attraction to birds or inclusion of aviation activities, require prior consultation with the airport operator, and these must be carefully considered in the interest of safety.

DQ 14B: Airport Safeguarding Zone

Within the Safeguarding Zone (see appendix 8) around Glasgow Airport, development which adversely affects the operation, integrity or safety of the airport will not normally be permitted.
