4.1.33 Recent Government guidance, specifically the review of NPPG 6
Renewable Energy, emphasises the importance of accommodating the growth in
demand for sites for renewable energy developments. The Council recognises the important
contribution made by renewable energy to a more sustainable future and will
generally support renewable energy developments where these can be achieved in
an environmentally acceptable manner.
The Council is however committed to the protection of natural and
manmade resources from adverse impact.
In particular the Council supports the strategic designation of the Campsie Fells and Kilpatrick Hills Regional Scenic Areas
and will resist the development of windfarms in these
areas (see also policy GB 2K).
DQ 9 Renewable Energy Developments
The Council will generally support
proposals for renewable energy developments, including recovery of landfill
gas, biomass energy and wind turbines, except where there would be an adverse
impact upon:
a. the historic or natural environment resources
defined in this plan,
b. the landscape quality of the green belt, the Campsie Fells and Kilpatrick Hills Regional Scenic Areas,
and
c. local amenity e.g. traffic, noise and visual
impact.
The development of windfarms
will be resisted in the Campsie Fells and Kilpatrick
Hills Regional Scenic Areas.
