Thank you for participating in the Greenspace Strategy Consultation. The consultation ended on 28 September, with the exception of play sufficiency surveys below. An extension has been granted until Monday 4 October to enable children, young people, their parents/caregivers and community organisations to respond.
The Council has begun preparations to develop a new Greenspace Strategy for East Dunbartonshire
The strategy will replace the existing Open Space Strategy (OSS, 2015-2020) and widen its scope to include Play Sufficiency and the Green Network. More information can be found in the Greenspace Strategy Information Booklet.

Play Area Audit and Action Plan – Information and Erratum
It should be noted that the Play Area Audit and Action Plan was completed in March 2020 and that the audit was carried out during winter 2019/20. Consultation on the Plan has been delayed due to the pandemic.
We are aware that the condition of some parks may have changed since the audit was carried out and this should be taken into account in considering the information in the Plan.
It should be noted that the Plan contains some errors in references to Springfield Park, Bishopbriggs:
- On page 21, Table 2, Springfield Park East should be identified as a LEAP and Springfield Park West as a LAP
- On page 24, Chart 2, and page 26, Chart 5, the quality scoring for Springfield Park West and Springfield Park East have been transposed
- On page 27, Table 8, Springfield Park East should read Springfield Park West
- On page 31, reference STR 023 Springfield Park East should read Springfield Park West
- On page 34, reference BBR10, Springfield Park East should read Springfield Park West
The first stage in developing the strategy is to consult with local communities and stakeholders. We would like to hear your comments and suggestions about Open Spaces, Play Sufficiency and the green network.
The consultation will run from 26 July until 28 September.

Online Ideas Map – Open Space, Play sufficiency and the Green Network
Contribute to our Ideas Map. This interactive tool allows you to pinpoint a location and provide comments and photos regarding Open Spaces, Play Sufficiency and the Green Network in East Dunbartonshire.
You can respond as an individual or as a representative of an organisation (e.g. community group, charity).
Online Surveys – Play Sufficiency
For the purposes of this consultation we are defining the following as:
- Play - behaviour, activity or process initiated, controlled and structured by children themselves; it takes place whenever and wherever opportunities arise (General Comment 17, UNCRC). This can include formal structured play, where materials are used, or informal play using natural features and imagination based activities and is often seen in younger children/ young people.
- Hanging out – when groups of older children and young people congregate to socialise.
We would like to hear the views and ideas of children, young people and their parents/caregivers on the sufficiency of play opportunities in East Dunbartonshire.
- Survey link (NOW CLOSED) – For children aged 5-10 (inclusive) to complete. Younger children may require help from their parent/caregiver to complete.
- Survey link (NOW CLOSED) – For young people aged 11-17 (inclusive) to complete.
- Survey link (NOW CLOSED) – For the parents/caregivers of children and young people (all ages) to complete. You will be given an opportunity to comment on up to five children per survey. Please follow the guidance on completing the survey at the start.
We would also like to hear the views of organisations who work with children and young people on the sufficiency of play opportunities in East Dunbartonshire
- Survey link (NOW CLOSED) – For organisations such as community groups and charities, working with children and young people. Responses from individuals who work for these organisations but are not responding on their behalf, e.g. teachers or play facilitators, are also welcome. If you are working remotely and would like a copy of the survey to complete collaboratively, please download the response template and return to sustainability@eastdunbarton.gov.uk
